Snowy Hydro is a dynamic, integrated energy business that has been providing on-demand, reliable energy to Australia for generations. Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the mighty Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants, and contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to about 1 million retail customers through our retail brands Red Energy and Lumo Energy. Snowy 2.0 is Australia's largest committed renewable energy project. This nation-building project will provide on-demand energy and large-scale storage for many generations to come.
An exciting opportunity exists within this project for a suitably qualified and experienced Tunnel Engineer to perform onsite tunnel and underground works engineering on behalf of the 2.0 Owner's team, with the primary objective to ensure that the built product meets contractual requirements and construction works are conducted in line with Snowy Hydro project objectives. You will join the team onsite on a DIDO (drive-in, drive out) or a FIFO (fly-in, fly-out) basis, based on site at Lobs Hole/Tantangara.
Reporting to the Site Geotechnical Manager, your key accountabilities will include but not be limited to:

Ensuring tunnelling and underground construction works are carried out in accordance with the latest IFC drawings, specifications and other relevant documents

Continual surveillance and review of the Contractor's activities to identify and prevent issues from arising that may result in delays or reduction of work quality

Supporting, monitoring and oversight of underground works from TBM tunnelling to drill and blast activities, installation and monitoring of ground support measures

Working alongside the Owner's GBR team in assessment of issues relating to ground conditions and geohazards

Supporting the on-site Quality Management team and Project Engineer - Quality - Tunnels

Preparing, reviewing and providing commentary on relevant reports/documentation

Maintaining the highest level of health and safety performance and acting in accordance with SHL Health and Safety policies
In addition to the above, our ideal applicant will be able to demonstrate;

Degree qualifications in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering or similar field (to satisfy the eligibility requirements for Corporate Membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia)

Minimum 5 years experience working as a tunnel engineer on large scale, civil engineering or infrastructure projects

Experience with tunnel construction in hard and soft rock conditions, grouting and associated ground support techniques

In-depth knowledge of drill and blast, NATM and TBM excavation techniques

Detailed knowledge of geology, structural engineering and trenchless construction

An understanding in monitoring underground excavation behaviours

Strong communication/influencing and negotiation skills

Excellent attention to detail/problem solving skills

Sound knowledge of Quality, OH&S, EEO and Environmental policies, procedures and standards
