Snowy Hydro owns and operates a powerful combination of generation assets, including the 4100 megawatt Snowy Mountains Scheme, gas and diesel plants and has recently contracted wind and solar energy. We also provide electricity and gas to more than 1.1 million retail customers through Red Energy and Lumo Energy.
An exciting opportunity exists for a Contractor Manager based in Khancoban NSW, supporting the Major Overhauls of Murray 1 power station generating units.
As part of a site management team, this hands-on working role includes being a key contributor to contractor feedback, managing relationships with service providers and supporting the Outage Manager in the supervision of contractor maintenance activities.
Reporting to the Outage Manager (Major Overhauls), you will be responsible to:

Liaise with the Project Manager to understand outage contractor scopes of work, and contract terms and conditions

Identify the plant access requirements necessary to carry out the intended scope of work

Liaise with the Manager Planning and Scheduling and work through the Application for Access process to establish site access and organise the necessary approvals and permits

Liaise with the Project Manager to contribute to the development of outage safe systems of work, including risk assessments and management plans

Contribute to the development of inspection and test plans for the work, in conjunction with the design team and project engineers

Review the detailed task planning completed by the work teams to ensure completeness and accuracy of preparations, e.g. work method statements, and personnel competency, certification, and induction requirements

Challenge contractor-developed schedules and work method proposals, contributing to optimised and integrated outage schedules

Assist in the integration of project and site work plans to ensure that interactions and resources are appropriately managed

Identify outage contractor personnel mandatory training requirements, and verify completion and compliance prior to site access

Verify that all personnel adhere to safe systems of work, including Snowy Hydro Access Rules, and that the intended work methods and risk controls are being followed

Demonstrate safety leadership through the application of site walks, processes and mentoring of contractors to embed them in SHL application platforms

Inspect and review the work site for changes to the intended work method and for arising hazards and risks, and ensure that appropriate mitigating controls are implemented

Ensure the application of contract terms and conditions and appropriately escalate to the project manager for contract resolution when necessary

Lead regular coordination discussions with team leaders and supervisors to ensure that progress against plan, and emergent works and scope variations are understood and that the necessary resources are planned to ensure the safe and timely completion of works to the required standard of quality

Monitor the rate of work against the intended program, and forecast and communicate schedule and resource risks or impacts

Supervise the inspections, tests or verifications required and as required by the inspection and test plans
To be successful in this role, you will need:

Technical background (trade certificate or engineering diploma) and experience in management of construction works

Well-developed site supervision and site management skills including leadership, logistics, organisational and contract management

Good knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements, environmental controls, risk assessment methods and preparation of site management documentation

Ability to read and understand work scopes, technical specifications and drawings and conceive suitable and safe methods to complete works

Knowledge of equipment, materials, technical standards, methods and systems used in construction and asset management
-
Demonstrated flexibility and competent problem solving skills
-
Experience in the development and maintenance of project schedules
-
Able to quickly and effectively adapt to changing circumstances and business demands in a measured and constructive way

Ability to lead and influence others in order to achieve project objectives without direct delegated authority

Experience in contract supervision, onsite and offsite.

High level of interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills, with a demonstrated ability to work effectively with staff at all levels of an organisation and external stakeholders.

Well developed, proven and demonstrated analytical and research skills.

Sound knowledge of WH&S, EEO and Environmental Policies and standards.
