An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and organised Hydrographer to join the Weather and Water Team. This position will be based in Cooma.The successful candidate will be required to maintain an optimised hydro-meteorological network and systems of work for water resources data collection and management in order to meet operational, asset management and compliance objectives.
You will report to the Team Leader Hydro Services and be part of a team of Hydrographers, Weather Scientists and Water Resource Advisors.
In this role your day to day may include:
Performing hydrological field measurements including stream flow gaugings, snow pack assessments, meteorological observations and measuring water quality parameters;
Developing and maintaining water resource databases and applications including performance reporting, corrective actions, rating table development and maintenance and water balancing
Data processing and quality control
Supplying quality assured reports in response to internal and external requests for data and analysis.
To be successful in this role you will possess:
Relevant tertiary engineering/hydrological/water resources qualification and sound experience in industry
Demonstrated knowledge of current hydrometric practices and knowledge of geographic, hydrological and meteorological processes.
High level hydro-met instrumentation selection, installation, maintenance and fault finding skills
A track record in successful Project Management
Demonstrated competence with computer systems used for processing hydrographic time series data, equipment and station databases.
Ability to operate and work in boats, helicopters, over snow and in remote alpine locations
The role is required to work flexibly to meet the requirements of the Hydrographic function. This will include frequent regional travel and at times a willingness to undertake work outside of formal duties.
